March 12 - second week almost over already

Sabine and Sarah C got up with John at 5:30 AM to practice teaching and then they taught us at 8 AM.  It's really amazing how much they have both changed and how much they've learned since they arrived.  They're great!

I took a picture of the moon before sunrise, and then three pictures of the sunrise this morning, which are above.

John let us go in to our own practices after he took us through Janu Sirsasana C, and the energy in the room was very inspiring.

Lucy came to our morning class and shared her wisdom about physiology, and looking at, or observing different bodies in different asanas.

For lunch, we had veggie pizza and salad.  Really good- especially with hot chili flakes on the pizza.  Bela and Vayu are both spicy-food lovers, like me.

Afternoon class included John reading out of B.K.S. Iyengar's book, The Tree of Life - the chapter on teachers and teaching.  Very interesting.

Both Iyengar and Pattabhi Jois studied with Krishnamacharya, and yet the way they teach and what they focus on is different.

Since several of us are going up to Golden Bay this weekend, we did lots of laundry today.  At least Sabine, Evelyn, Amanda, and I will drive just beyond Takaka to stay Friday night, and spend Saturday morning in Takaka.  Hopefully, the weather will be good so we can drive all the way up to Fairwell Spit.

Anyway, Evelyn and I did some baking before dinner; she made banana-walnut bread, and I made bran muffins with currants.  They both went over well.  For dinner, Evelyn baked a pumpkin and chickpea loaf, and I made Tim's favorite potatoes... but they didn't turn out exactly right.  They kinda fell apart, but still tasted OK with fresh rosemary and garlic from the Marlborough area.

Overall, a really nice day.
